![]() To make a good spark the ignition coil must develop enough power, and the insulation of the secondary ignition system must keep the electric current flowing across the spark plug gap. ![]() The purpose of an electric current across the spark plug gap is to generate enough heat to ensure all the fuel burns within the cylinder. This drastically raises the pressure inside the cylinder and forces the piston down into the power stroke. When the spark occurs, the fuel begins to burn. As the temperature increases, the fuel is vaporized. This mixture is then compressed to raise the temperature of the air fuel mixture. ![]() ![]() Air and fuel is drawn into a cylinder during the intake stroke.
